Rustoleum Antique Bronze, with a matte clearcoat.

It looks fantastic with darker colours, such as the deep burgundy on the Oldsmoboat Gutbus Extreme.

What do you guys think?

I think it will look great. Just do a lot of prep on the wheels and give it time between coats.

Yup. Currently, I'm stripping the rust using a wire attachment. Then i'm converting the leftover surface rust, then using filler primer, then sanding, then applying 2-4 coats of paint, then putting on a coat or two of clear.

Are you going to do the entire wheel, Or just the inner portion?

I'd get the whole wheel, just because of the way they're designed.

Noice, Would you put the chrome trim ring back on?

Yup, and the little pot-metal trims that line each spoke opening. I'm going to polish them up, then install them after I finish with paint (which will hopefully be by mid-april, as it's a huge PITA to strip rust below freezing).

Nice, It should look pretty good. Make sure you keep them from getting rusty. You should try a mockup using Photoshop or something.

I wish I were rich enough to afford photoshop. I do, however, have a good idea as to what the colour will look like. I'll use these in the summer, and park the car in the winter.

Yup. The to-so list is huge, and the cash is running short. I need to fix the rust on the car, paint, replace a frame rail, and refinish the rims, all before mid-may, so I can roll up to the local Cruise-night in style.

Where is the majority of the rust located?

LR frame rail extension, RF fender, RR fender, LR fender. Those are the worst spots. The frame rail extension and RF fender are pretty much rusted through.

Had a quick look at this post: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/oldsmoboat-gut…

Don't know if you have more pictures of the actual rust sitting around somewhere? I'm looking at the picture of the wheel, but if I'm not mistaken it looks like rust is eating it from underneath that chrome. If you've got an assload of Bondo and an angle grinder, it looks possible. Matching the paint is the real challenge though.

Matching paint isn't the problem. I don't have an especially nice car, so I can just spray on some dark garnet or whatever's cheap and similar, and be fine with it. All the rust is covered by paint in the pics. It's really a shitshow when you're right next to the car. The FRE is going to be the huge PITA, though. At least I can *probably* get it certified without repair.

It's a pretty nice car! Certainly for it's time.

Yup. I bet that in the 84 it was a very nice car. Now it is the type of car you blast Eagles of Death Metal in while doing a peg-leg burnout out of a Dairy queen with your friends.
